I'd just like to mention that 1280x1024 is a different aspect ratio (5:4) than 1024x768 and 800x600 (4:3).

Hehe, spider always beats king
My only suggestion would to turn down how much reflection the chess pieces have. They reflect to much, and takes away from their detail. Even more so on the knocked over king.
Other then that, with those changes I think it can be totally rad!
